HOW TO PLAY AIRSOFT

A beginner's guide to getting started with airsoft.

How to Play Airsoft: Beginner's Guide

Airsoft is an exciting tactical sport that's easy to learn but takes time to master. This guide will help you understand the basics and get started on your airsoft journey.

Getting Started: Your First Game

Step 1: Find a Field

Locate a local airsoft field or arena. Indoor CQB (Close Quarters Battle) fields are great for beginners due to shorter engagement distances and controlled environments.

Step 2: Attend a Beginner Event

Many fields offer beginner-friendly events or rental days. These provide equipment, safety briefings, and a welcoming environment for new players.

Step 3: Complete Safety Briefing

Always attend the safety briefing before playing. You'll learn field-specific rules, emergency procedures, and gameplay guidelines.

Step 4: Get Your Gear

For your first time, rent equipment from the field. You'll typically receive:

  • An airsoft gun (usually an AEG rifle)
  • Eye and face protection
  • BBs and magazines
  • Sometimes a tactical vest

Basic Gameplay

The Objective

Game objectives vary, but common goals include:

  • Eliminate all opposing players
  • Capture and hold specific areas
  • Complete mission objectives
  • Defend or attack positions

Core Gameplay Loop

  1. Game starts - move to strategic positions
  2. Engage enemies while avoiding getting hit
  3. If hit, call yourself out immediately
  4. Return to respawn point or leave the field (depending on rules)
  5. Respawn or wait for next round

When You're Hit

  • Immediately shout "Hit!" or "Out!"
  • Raise your hand or weapon above your head
  • Walk to designated dead zone or respawn point
  • Do not call hits for other players
  • Don't continue shooting after being hit

Essential Skills for Beginners

Movement and Positioning

  • Use Cover: Always move from cover to cover, don't stand in the open
  • Stay Low: Crouching reduces your profile and makes you harder to hit
  • Check Corners: Pie corners slowly to minimize exposure
  • Listen: Audio cues help you locate enemies

Shooting Basics

  • Aim Before Shooting: Take time to line up shots
  • Burst Fire: Short bursts are more accurate than full-auto spray
  • Adjust for Distance: Aim higher for long-range shots
  • Trigger Control: Smooth trigger pulls improve accuracy

Teamwork

  • Communicate: Call out enemy positions to teammates
  • Stick Together: Solo players get eliminated quickly
  • Support Each Other: Cover teammates during movements
  • Share Information: Relay what you see to your team

Common Beginner Mistakes

  • Standing in the Open: Always use cover and concealment
  • Not Calling Hits: Honor system requires honesty
  • Tunnel Vision: Stay aware of your surroundings
  • Staying in One Spot: Static players are easy targets
  • Running Everywhere: Move tactically, not recklessly
  • Not Checking Magazines: Know your ammo count

What to Bring

For your first games, bring:

  • Water bottle (stay hydrated)
  • Snacks or lunch
  • Athletic clothing you can move in
  • Sturdy closed-toe shoes
  • Towel and change of clothes
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
